Grandson of Exum 

I do not know when this picture was taken. 
David died at age 44. 

 

Elisha's 11th child was Exum, being the 3rd child by his second wife Patie Peacock. 
Exum's 8th and last child by his first Wife, Penniah Boswell, was Calvin C. Holland, born in 1848. 
Calvin had 10 children by his first wife, Sarah Jane Ballenberger;  David Holland was the 7th. 
Only 3 of the 10 children reached the age of 21.  Only one, Minnie Lee Holland, lived past 50. 
David Holland died at age 44 of a stroke.
Just 13 days before his 23rd birthday, David Holland married 16-year-old Emma Lea Bryant in Greensboro, NC.  They had 2 little boys, Louis Lea (born 17 Feb. 1912) and Curtis David (born 20 Aug. 1914).  When the boys were still quite young, about ages 2 and 4, Emma abandoned her family.  David married Bessie Owen of Fountain, NC, who raised his 2 little boys, and they had 3 more children together: Sydney, Janie, and Peggy Holland. 

David owned several hotels until The Depression.  When he lost them he moved back to a farm he owned near Faison, NC.

Emma Lea Bryant married David Holland on 20 January 1911 in Greensboro, North Carolina.  They had two boys: 
Louis Lea Holland was born 17 February 1912 and Curtis David Holland was born 20 August 1914. 

This picture of Emma Lea Bryant was taken in Tampa, Florida, after she married Henry Gaddy.  Her first son, from her first marriage to David Holland, is sitting on the steps with her.  After they were grown, her sons from her marriage to David Holland, Louis and Curtis, went to Florida to find her.

Emma left North Carolina and her husband and two boys when the younger son was about two years old.  She married 2nd Henry Rogers Gaddy and lived the remainder of her life in Tampa, Florida.  She had two more children there, Dot and Jack Gaddy. 

This is Emma Lea Bryant Holland Gaddy with her first son from her first marriage, Louis Lea Holland, born 17 February 1912.  The baby may be her daughter Dot Gaddy's child.  The picture was taken at her Tampa home around 1934. 

Emma died 11 July 1964 and is buried in Tampa, Florida.
