Note from Holland Family DNA Project Administrator:

Family Tree DNA has teamed up with MyHeritate to integrate with their international databse of 65 million users.  See notice on news page

Our Project has a co-administrator!  Please join me in welcoming Linda Stockdale, a long-time participant in the Project and now volunteer joint administrator.  She will be available to try to answer your questions and guide you through the Holland DNA adventure.

In March 2012, Linda Stockdale took on the task of compiling membership data in an Excel spreadsheet and passing it on to me to publish here.

The Holland Family DNA Project - Initiated November 2003

Holland, Hollan, Hollans, Hollen and Hillen males are involved in DNA testing to help us determine who we are related to and where we came from.

How does this work?  In a situation reported recently, a family, after 30 years of research, was stuck in 1850 and could not trace their family back any further. Their ancestor had relocated to the US in the early 1800's, and their prior location could not be determined.  DNA testing enabled this family to break through their brick wall. With DNA testing they found a match, and research in the geographic area where the ancestors of the match lived commenced. The records for this location provided the evidence needed to connect their branch to the family tree of the person they matched, and to take them back to 1615.

Without DNA testing, it is doubtful that the link between the two families would have ever been found.

The testing is performed by Family Tree DNA.  If you are interested in being testing, you begin by going to Family Tree DNA and contracting with them to do your testing.  With your consent, they then share your results with The Holland Family DNA Project -- us.  This is the largest database, as far as I know, of genealogy-purposed DNA testing results.  While you can have testing done at Ancestry and other places, it is not straight-forward to get it integrated into the pool of data collected by Family Tree DNA and The Holland Family DNA Project.  This is not the case with MyHeritage; Family Tree DNA has teamed up with MyHeritate to integrate with their international databse of 65 million users.  See notice on news page

Your privacy will be protected and you decide if your results are to be known to others.  The project administrator is Diana Holland Faust.  Read on for more about the Holland Family DNA Project
