This page is a sub-section of Woodard D. Holland and his wife Celia's children.   It shows the descendants of their seventh child, Exum Haywood Holland and his wife Sally Sasser.  

Woodard's children:

7. Exum Haywood Holland, C. S. A., was born 15 June 1830.  He died 28 February 1905 at the age of 75 and was buried at Exum Cemetery.  Exum was married 1st to Sarah (Sally) Sasser on 11 February 1858 by Jesse Parker, J. P.  He was 27 years old when they got married and she was 22.  Sarah was born in 1836 and died in 1895 at the age of 59.  

On 15 July 1862, Exum enlisted in the Confederate Army in Wake County, North Carolina, at the age of 32.  He was wounded at Crampton's Gap, Maryland, captured, and held as a Prisoner of War until he was transferred out in a Prisoner exchange. He was discharged on 22 December 1864 for disability from his wounds.  There is further information on Exum Haywood  Holland's Civil War service in the Public Records section of this web site. 

After Sally Sasser died, Exum married Cora Peacock second; they did not have children together.  It is estimated that she was born around 1835.  Exum Haywood Holland lived to be 74 years old.  
Children of Exum Haywood Holland by Sally Sasser:

1. Elizabeth Holland was born 17 February  1859 in Wayne County, North Carolina.  She was her parents' only child when her father enlisted in the confederate Army.  She was listed as being 11 years old in the 1870 Census.  Elizabeth married Bryant Nichols 8 December 1881.  He was born 26 May 1860, the son of Bryant Nichols (b. 1811 Pitt County, North Carolina, age 59 in 1870 census) and Clemmie Crawford (b. 1846 Wayne County, North Carolina, age 46 in 1870 census), and brother of Eliphair Nichols. The marriage was performed in the home of Esau Holland of Wayne County, North Carolina.  Witnesses were listed as Eli Sasser, Laura Davis, and M.C. Holland. The marriage was performed by S.W. Hamilton, M.G.  Bryant Nichols was reported to be a barrel and coffin maker.  He was reported to have had severe vision problems -- retinitis pignentosa is suspected as later generations of males were diagnosed with RP and it is known to be hereditary.⁷⁵ 

2. Frank Holland was born in 1863; he died about 1885 at age 22 of pneumonia the day before he was to have married.

3.  Emma Holland was called "Emily" in the family Bible.  She was born about 1864 and married Robert Lee Scott who was born about 1860.⁵⁰

1.  Jonathan Hooks was born about 1933.  He married Bessie Hill.

3.  Scottie Hooks was born about 1937. He married Jean Ellis.

2.  Elbert Scott was born about 1912.   He married Nola Langley.

1.  Hilda Gray Scott was born about 1935.  She married Paul Carver.

2.  Marie Scott was born about 1937.  She married Jerry Rhodes.

3.  Sue Scott was born about 1939.  She married E. B. Hodge, Jr.

3.  Woodrow Scott was born around 1914.   He married Kathleen Gay.

1.  Wilma Scott was born around 1938.

2.  Mary K. Scott was born around 1940.

4.  Exum Scott was born around 1916.  He married Alma Barnes, daughter of Joe Barnes.

1.  Janice Scott was born in 1940.  She married J. C. Ford.

2.  J. Franklin Scott was born in 1942.  He married Barbara Owens.  He died in 2008.

3.  Carol Scott was born in 1944.  She married Elvin Stone. 

3.  Frances Scott was born in 1947.  She married Dannie Southerland.

4.  Robert Scott was born in Wilson, North Carolina in 1957.  He married Donna Eastman on 1 May 1983.  She was born in Illinois in 1960.  Bob Scott has a family site online with pictures and information on the Scott Family. ²⁰⁴

3.  Carl Willard Boswell was born in 1914.  He married Margaret Schimmerchecht, daughter of Nathilda Schimetschik and her husband Schimmerchecht from Vienna, Austria.¹²¹

1.  Madeline Carroll Boswell was born 27 January 1938, in Long Beach, California.  She married William Robert Neidigh, born 21 June 1934, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

1. Carol Neidigh was born 28 August 1956, in San Diego, California.  She married Victor Mark Embry in her parents' home in Santee, California, on 12 April 1975.

2.  Brian Andrew Embry was born 11 October 1982.

 

2.  Carolyn Boswell was born around 1941.  She married Jack Byers.

3.  Gloria Jean Boswell was born around 1944.  She married Ronnie Hawkins about 1964.

4.  Linda Boswell was born around 1947.  She married Rodney Shields about 1965.

4.  Selby Woodard Boswell was born 19 June 1916.   He married Vivian Pearce.  She was born 16 March 1917.

1.  Julius Ivan Boswell was born in 1938, in Pamlico County, North Carolina.  He married Jackie [last name unknown] from Hampton, Virginia.  Julius died in February 2007.

2.  Selby Wesley Boswell was born in1940 in Wayne County, North Carolina.  He married Judy Bridges.

3.  Elbert Ray Boswell was born in 1943 in Wayne County, North Carolina.  He married three times, the 3rd time to Judy Price from Wendell, North Carolina.

1.  David Ray Boswell was born about 1970.

4.  Cecil Earl Boswell was born in 1945, in Wilson, North Carolina.  He married Mary [last name unknown].  They live in Ashland City, Tennessee (as of June 2012).

2.  Tina Marie Boswell was born about 1972.

1.  Rudolph Hinnant was born around 1925.  He married Edna Earl Lamm.

1.  Suzanne Hinnant was born around 1950.  She married James H. Stell.

2.  Harold Hinnant was born 17 December 1930.  He married Janyce Bass, born 1 December 1931, daughter of Lillian Dixon and Sylvester Bass.  Lillian Dixon was daughter of Sally Holland, who was daughter of Green H. Holland, son of Elisha Holland and Patience Peacock.  Harold Hinnant was son of Senia Mae Scott, daughter of Emma Holland and Robert Lee Scott.  Harold Hinnant and Janyce Bass are third cousins, once removed.  Their relationship is explained more fully in the Notes section of this web site.  Updated information on their children was provided by Beth Speight in April 2004.¹⁰⁹

4. Haywood Holland was born in 1865; he died about 1876 at age 11.

5. Sally Holland was born in 1865; she was buried in the Exum Holland Cemetery.  She married Seth Scott, the brother of Robert Lee Scott, her sister Emma's husband.  He was born about 1863.

1. John Scott was born about 1887.

2. Ida Scott was born about 1889.

3. Lacy Scott was born about 1892.

6. Exum H. Holland was born about 1869.  He was listed in the 1870 Census in this family.  

7.  Grant Holland was born 2 November 1875.   He died 11 November 1948 and was buried in the Jinnett Caswell Holland Cemetery, Pinkney Road, Kenly, North Carolina.  Grant married Henrietta (Etta) A. Holland who was born 5 (or 15) October 1871 and died 22 April 1938.   Henrietta Holland was the daughter of Jinnett Caswell and Marie (Mary) Worley Holland, making her Grant's 2nd cousin.  She was also buried in the Jinnett Caswell Holland Cemetery.  See the Notes section of this web site for more information on the relationship of Grant Holland and Henrietta Holland.⁷

2. William Arthur Stancil was born about 1921.

3. Worth Hayes Stancil was born 16 May 1923 and died in December 1985.   He lived in Wilson, North Carolina.

2. Carrie Holland was born 5 July 1902; she married Earl Pope who was born around 1900. They lived in Kenly, North Carolina.
Children of Carrie Holland and Earl Pope:   

1. Madeline Pope was born about 1925 in Kenly, North Carolina.

3. Roland Holland was born 4 January 1904; he married Lillian Valentine who was born around 1906. Roland Holland died 17 June 1971, and was buried in the Jinnett Caswell Holland Cemetery, Pinkney Road, Kenly, North Carolina.
